In this section, you can find some secrets for Tekken Tag Tournament, Tekken 4, and Tekken 5.

Time Release Characters

Characters are unlocked only by completing “Arcade” mode. The order in which the fighters are unlocked:

Play as Panda

Highlight Kuma and then press the “X” or “Circle” button.

Highlight Tetsujin and then press the “X” or “Circle” button for a female Mokujin and “Triangle” for a male Mokujin.

After unlocking Tetsujin and Unknown, they cannot be viewed in most modes as selectable fighters. Tetsujin is in an empty space to the left of Wang, and Unknown is in the empty space to the right of Roger.

Special Outfits

Play as Schoolgirl Ling

Highlight Ling and then press the “Start” or “Tag” button.

Play as Schoolboy Jin
———————
Highlight Jin and then press the “Start” or “Tag” button.

Fight in Law’s Orange Outfit

Highlight Law and then press the “Start” or “Tag” button.

Fight in Lee’s Black Tuxedo
—————————
Highlight Lee and then press the “Start” or “Tag” button.

Unlock Armor King’s 3rd Outfit
——————————
Beat “Arcade” mode with Armor King. Highlight him and then press the Start” or “Tag” button.

Play as Gold Tetsujin
———————
Win 10 consecutive matches in “Versus battle” or “1 on 1 Versus” mode, then select Tetsujin. Tetsujin will remain gold until the win streak is broken, or Versus mode is exited.

Another way is to win 10 consecutive matches in “Survival Mode” with Tetsujin as one of the members of the tag team. Then for the rest of Survival mode, Tetsujin will be gold until you are defeated.

Other Unlockables

Unlock Theater Mode

Beat story mode with any fighter.

Unlock Ling’s 2nd Movie
———————–
Beat “Arcade” mode when selecting Ling as the first fighter in her schoolgirl outfit.

Unlock Tekken Bowl
——————
When you unlock True Ogre, this mode is unlocked as well.

Unlock Embu #2
————–
Unlock Unknown and you will be able to see an embu starring the animals of Tekken Tag.

Unlock Gallery Mode
——————-
Unlock Unknown and you will be able to get screen captures from a match by pausing the game and selecting “Screen Capture”.

Cool Secrets

Begin Match with Second Fighter
——————————-
To start off the match with the second selected fighter, hold down the tag button until the player intros begin.

Devil Kazuya
————
Picking Kazuya and Devil as partners will give you a special tag team where Kazuya can transform into Devil and vise-versa. The down side of this tag team is that they can only transform while they are standing up.

Unknown’s Hidden Power
———————-
If you have an Analog controller, then you have access to Unknown’s Hidden Power. Unlike any other fighter, Unknown has the ability to change her fighting style at her own free will. If you decide that you want to take on a different fighter’s fighting style, then press the R3 button while in a match. Unknown will randomly choose a fighting style to imitate.

Play as an Unlocked Fighter
——————————
In “Arcade”, “Practice”, “Versus”, or “Tekken Bowl” mode, choose the “Random” icon until you get a fighter that is not unlocked yet. If you don’t get a new fighter, just press the “Select” button and try again. This fighter will be the next fighter that you can unlock during “Arcade” mode. You can use them before you unlock them, but the fighter won’t be listed until they are actually unlocked.

Scrambled Circuits
——————
These are fighters that will go “berserk” after being hit by one of Devil’s laser beams:
Gun Jack, Jack-2, P. Jack

Fire Retardant
————–
These are fighters that will barely be fazed when hit by True Ogre’s fire blast (i.e. they still stand after being hit):
Bryan Fury, Gun Jack, Jack-2, P. Jack

Noise Pollution
—————
If you hold the down button the on the controller before the match begins, then you will be able to hear Tetsujin making clanking noises whenever he is hit or when he blocks. Mokujin will make clanking and wood chop sounds.
NOTE: The sound effect ends as soon as the match is over.

Glitch / Error
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Practice Mode Glitch
——————–
In practice mode, if you select Eddy Gordo as your opponent, the damage meter will continue to increase until Eddy gets knocked to the ground.

Error in Movelist Demo
———————-
In the practice mode command list demo, you will see that Ling performs the “Sunflower Wake Up Call” instead of the “Sunflower”.

In-Game Reset

Press “start” and “select” simultaneously to return to the Menu screen at any time, except while in the Options menu and at the
load screens.

Command Continuous Playback
—————————
In practice mode, you can have a move repeated continuously by first recording it with the command capture, then by playing it with “SELECT + SQUARE” buttons.

Repeat Team Battle Results
————————–
The results of Team Battle can be repeated by pressing the select button.

Highlight “Practice mode” while in the main menu. Hold “L2” and then press “R2” the indicated number of times to select the corresponding stage:

Beat Story mode or Arcade mode with Ling Xiaoyu. Highlight Ling and then press the triangle button.

Highlight Kuma and then press the triangle or circle button.

Play as Lee Chaolan / Violet

When playing as Violet in Arcade or Story mode, Violet will automatically change into Lee for the fight against Heihachi.

When you beat Story mode with Violet, the Violet icon will change to Lee Chaolan. Highlight Lee and then press square
or X button to play as Lee. Press triangle or circle button to play as Violet.

Hints

Pre-Match Power Up
——————
Yoshimitsu can regain health during his Indian Stance Healing (d+3+4, n), before the match officially begins. This can be very
useful during Survival and Team Battle Modes.

There are some characters with the ability to go into their specialized stances before the match officially begins.

Unlock Theater Mode and Replay Data Save

Beat story mode with any fighter.

Movie Director
————–
You can change the order your Game Replays are displayed by pressing the “square” button after the replay files are loaded from the memory card, while in under “Replay” in Theater mode.

  1. By date and time, starting with the most recent save (Default)
  2. Group by fighter on left side (Player 1)
  3. Group VS battles together, then CPU battles, by date and time
  4. Group by fighter on right side (Player 2)
  5. Same as #4 (NOTE: This should be ordered by location, but there must be an error in the programming.)
  6. Go back to #1

What Was That Move?
——————-
You can display the name of each command/move that you perform in a match by pressing the “select” button during the match. Pressing the “select” button again will disable this option.

In-Game Reset
————-
Press “start” and “select” simultaneously to return to the Menu screen at any time, except while in the Options menu.

Move Distribution
—————–
To view how often you have executed a certain move in the game, go to the “Command List” and press “L1” or “R1”. This will break each move down percentage-wise to how often that move was performed during a match or practice mode.

Command Continuous Playback
—————————
In practice mode, you can have a move repeated continuously by first recording it with the command capture, then by playing it with “SELECT + SQUARE” buttons.

Repeat Team Battle Results
————————–
The results of Team Battle can be repeated by pressing the “select” button.

Complete the “Tekken: Devil Within” mini-game once, or fight in 200 matches.

Selecting Extra Outfits
———————–
There are some fighters that have a PS2 exclusive costume that can be purchased for 500,000G in the Customize mode. Once purchased, the costume can be selected by pressing the triangle button. Ling and Asuka have a fourth costume that can be selected by pressing the circle button. Christie has Eddy Gordo as a palette swap that can be selected by pressing triangle or circle.

Play as Schoolgirl Ling
———————–
Ling has a fifth costume that can be selected by pressing the “R1” button (or “Start” on the Arcade Machine). It is available from the start (doesn’t need to be purchased).

Play as Panda
————-
Highlight Kuma and then press the X or circle button.

Play as Female Mokujin
———————-
Highlight Mokujin and then press the X or circle button.

Play as Jinpachi Mishima
————————
Jinpachi cannot be unlocked. The only way to play as him is to use a cheat device, such as an Action Replay, Gameshark, or Code Breaker.

Unlock Jinpachi’s movie

To unlock Jinpachi’s movie in Theater mode, you have to lose to him andnot continue in Story Battle mode, while using any character.

Power Up
——–
Every fighter has the ability to power up their moves for a short period of time. When you press 1+2+3+4, moves performed right after will be automatically counted as a counter hit.

Legal 5 Finger Discount
———————–
You can earn up to forty 500,000G items for free when you play the “Tekken: Devil Within” mini-game for a second time after you already completed all levels. There are 8 items scattered throughout each level for you to find. To obtain these items, you have to collect the red symbols that resemble the tattoo on Jin’s arm.

Gaining Ranks Quickly
———————
In order to gain ranks quickly you must fight against opponents that are near your current rank. After each match in Arcade Mode, you can choose which ranking to fight against. You should always try to choose a ranking that is within two rankings higher or lower than you. For example, a 3rd Dan will want to fight against one of the following: 1st Dan, 2nd Dan, 3rd Dan, 4th Dan, or 5th Dan. If there are no available fighters within this interval, choose “Exit” and re-renter Arcade Mode.

Exit from Arcade History

To exit a game in “Arcade History”, you will have to hold “Start” and then press “Select” until you exit.

In practice mode, you can have a move repeated continuously by first recording it with the command capture, then by playing it with “SELECT + SQUARE” buttons.

Hidden Story Mode Cut-Scenes
—————————-
In Story Mode, you play macthes that are important to a character’s story. If you lose this match, you will get to see a short hidden cut-scene. However, not all fighter’s have this special cut-scene. The special cut-scenes occur when: Anna loses to Lee, Yoshimitsu loses to Raven, Marshall loses to Paul.

Special Time Attack Mode Cut-Scene
———————————-
In Time Attack Mode, you will see a special cut-scene if you fight against Heihachi Mishima on the 7th stage.

Fashion Show
————
In Customize Mode, you can zoom in by pressing “R1” and zoom out by pressing “L1”. Pressing both “R2” and “L2” resets the position of the fighter back to the default position. Moving the right analog stick rotates the fighter. And pressing the select button removes all of the menus so that you can get a better view of your fighter.

Difficulty Level Bug
——————–
On the NTSC version of Tekken 5 (maybe all versions), it seems that if you spend go directly to “Practice Mode” before doing anything else, the Difficulty Level of the game will change to “Easy”.
